Smith School Apartments
Originally serving as an elementary school for local residents in the Point Breeze section of Philadelphia, PA, this historical building has been reimagined as a 76-unit apartment building with loft-style units. The building, which is a gothic-revival style school, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and had been closed since June of 2013. Consisting of studio to 2-bedroom apartments, the Smith School Apartments provide luxurious living spaces, while maintaining the original integrity of the building. Holstein White prepared the MEPFP design, consisting of a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system with energy recovery units (ERV) to provide tempered control and recirculation in the apartments and common areas. Additionally, Holstein White provided close attention to detail in outlining the MEPFP equipment locations and routing of piping and conduits to protect the historical integrity of the interior and exterior of the building.
